A 180-degree U-bend is a pipe fitting that curves back on itself in a semi-circular or U-shaped pattern, changing the flow direction by 180 degrees. It is commonly used in piping systems where space constraints or thermal expansion management require a tight directional reversal.

Key Features of a 180° U-Bend

Shape & Geometry - Forms a complete half-circle (U-shape). Bend Radius (R): Specified as a multiple of the pipe diameter (e.g., 1.5D, 2D, 3D, where D = pipe diameter). Example: A 2D bend on a 6-inch pipe has a 12-inch centerline radius.
Types of U-Bends - Short Radius (1D): Tightest bend, used where space is limited. Long Radius (1.5D or more): Smoother flow, less pressure drop. Custom Radii: Engineered for specific applications.
Manufacturing Methods - Hot Induction Bending: Heated and bent for thick-walled pipes. Cold Bending: Used for smaller pipes with thinner walls. Mandrel Bending: Ensures smooth interior without wrinkles.
